What became really noticeable to me within the first month of being accepted into the HB19 program was that I now had this incredible network of women from all around the world.
Each of us had such a diverse range of professions, personalities, ages, experiences, backgrounds and motivations - yet we were all connected by our drive to make a difference to the world we live in.
Being accepted into the program had an additional bonus - we each gained 80+ friends from all around the world!
What made me realise how incredible our bond was (even though we had not met in person yet!) was the Facebook group chats.
Someone would post saying "Hey ladies, I'm going to be in New York for a conference in June - is anyone else going to be there? Would be great to connect!"
"Hey all, I'm on vacation in France in August, are there any HB19 participants (or HB alumnae) free for a coffee or catch-up?"
And the responses were amazing...
"Yes, I will be at that conference too! Let's meet up!"
"I live in France, you're more than welcome to come and stay at my place if you need somewhere!"
This just blew me out of the water (and I like being in the water).
These women have never met before, but they are opening their doors and hearts to their new found friends - most likely, who they would never have had the chance to meet.
Imagine what it will be like after 10 years when Homeward Bound unites 1000 women....
